Wrestlers' Protest: Delhi Police confirm grapplers will not be allowed to return to Jantar Mantar

Having cleared out the protest site at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police have confirmed that the protesting wrestlers will not be allowed to return to the venue.

Speaking to the press, Suman Nalwa, PRO of Delhi Police, said, "The wrestlers were there for 38 days, we provided them a lot of facilities. We gave them generators, water and a lot of other important items. We just couldn't have allowed them to go on a march on such an important day when the Parliament was being inaugurated. So, no police agency can allow a protest like that near such a critical area."

She added, "Wrestlers may be given permission to hold protest at a different venue but they will not be allowed back at Jantar Mantar."

The police have also filed FIRs against Bajrang, Sakshi and Vinesh under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Meanwhile, the wrestlers, who were released later in the evening on Sunday, complained of mistreatment and manhandling by the Delhi Police.
