Wrestlers' Protest: Sakshi Malik hits back at Delhi Police, says they wanted to march peacefully

Olympic medal-winning wrestler Sakshi Malik, one of the wrestlers who was dragged and detained in police custody has opened up about Sunday's stir.

Narrating the turmoil that the wrestlers went through while wanting to hold a peaceful protest outside the new parliament, Sakshi said, 'We wanted to march peacefully but they didn't let us do that. There was barricading right from Jantar Mantar. They started pushing us back and detained us...They dragged us to buses. We didn't riot, we didn't damage any public property.'

On Sunday when the wrestlers wanted to hold a Mahapanchayat outside the new parliament, they were detained forcibly. Wrestlers were pushed into buses, the police officers later in the day cleared the protest site by removing the cots, mattresses, coolers, fans and the tarpaulin ceiling along with other belongings of the grapplers.

The Delhi Police later said the wrestlers won't be allowed back at the protest site and lodged a case against them for breaking the law.

Sakshi also spoke about the morphed image circulating on social media which shows Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat smiling after being detained.

She said, 'those who are doing this have no shame at all. How does God create such people? Pasting smiles on the faces of girls who are disturbed...I don't think they even have a heart. They are trying to defame us: Wrestler Sakshee Malikkh when asked about a morphed photo of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat smiling in a vehicle'

Bajrang Punia too, posted a clarification on his social media handle after an image of Vinesh Phogat & Sangeeta Phogat went viral wherein the 2 wrestlers can be seen smiling on a bus after being detained. 'IT Cell people are spreading this false picture. We make it clear that a complaint will be filed against whoever posts this fake picture', his Tweet read.
