Afghanistan was the only team who stayed winless in the tournament with three defeats and two no-results. They finished at the bottom of Super 12 Group 1 with just 2 points.

T20 World Cup 2022: Mohd Nabi steps down as Afghanistan skipper

Mohammad Nabi announced his decision to step down from Afghanistan's captaincy following his side’s narrow 4-run loss to Australia in their last Group stage game of the T20 World Cup 2022.

‘Our T20 World Cup journey came to an end, with a result that not we nor our supporters were expecting. We are as frustrated as you are with the outcome of the matches’, the 37-year-old tweeted.

The spin all-rounder further expressed his disappointment in the selection committee and went on to explain, ‘in some of the last tours the team management, selection committee and I were not on the same page which had implications on the team balance’

Afghanistan was the only team which stayed winless in the tournament with three defeats and two games being washed out. They finished at the bottom of Super 12 Group 1 with just 2 points. Nabi, who was earlier named captain in 2010, took over captaincy again before the T20 World Cup 2021. Since then, he led Afghanistan in 23 games with the team winning 10 and losing 13 matches.

Nabi who is Afghanistan's most capped player has played 3 Tests, 133 ODIs and 104 T20Is, scoring a total of 4362 runs and has taken 234 wickets.
