T20 World Cup 2022: How R Ashwin's crucial leave was inspired from a Tamil film! Know the full story

Ravichandran Ashwin's clever move to earn India a wide in Team India's T20 World Cup 2022 opener against arch-rivals Pakistan was inspired from a Tamil film "Chennai 28 II".

The 36-year-old's smart decision to move inside the line of a delivery fired down the leg-side earned India an extra run and levelled the score, leaving Mohd Nawaz and Pakistan befuddled. And looks like the move from Ashwin had taken place before, in a Tamil film which the offie felt he could have acted in.

Back in December 2016, Ashwin had tweeted about the movie as well. “What a wonderful movie ‘Chennai 28 II’. Completely put my life on rewind mode. Genuinely felt I could have been a part of it.” Ashwin had tweeted in awe of the movie.

The director of the movie Venkat Prabhu took to social media to refer to the movie scene where the batter is seen doing the same exact movement to get the extra run with the wide when his team needed 5 runs from 5 balls.

He tweeted a short clip from the scene and wrote "Proud Us" and tagged Ashwin in the post as well.

Everyone knows about Ashwin's love for cinema due to his social media channels but no one would have ever thought that the 36-year-old would be able to enact a scene out of it in front of a 90,000+ packed Melbourne Cricket Ground against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.
