MS Dhoni's message hit home to me: Virat Kohli

The lean patch is a talk of the past now for Virat Kohli who since scoring his spectacular hundred in UAE has been unstoppable. The ex-skipper whose performance had been under the scanner for the past three years had to step down from captaincy across formats. And, when he gave up the Test captaincy earlier this year in January, the 34-year-old had revealed that only former cricketer MS Dhoni had reached out to him.

In a RCB podcast, Kohli who is currently in sublime form revealed what the World Cup-winning captain texted him. 'The only person who has genuinely reached out to me has been MS Dhoni. It is one of the things he mentioned in the same message he reached out to me that when you are expected to be strong and looked at as a strong individual, people forget to ask how you are doing, so, it hit home to me, it was like this is it', Kohli said.

Kohli who took a month-long break just before Asia Cup had admitted that he was 'mentally down'. In the RCB podcast too, the prolific batter reiterated, 'I have always been looked at as someone who is very confident, very mentally strong and can endure any situation and circumstance and show us the way. Sometimes you realise you need to take a few steps back and understand how you are doing'

Kohli smashed his 71st ton and the first in the shortest format of the game in Asia Cup 2022. He has been the backbone of India's campaign in the T20 World Cup 2022 Down Under where Team India is set to face England in the semifinals on 10th November.
