'If Indians play in other T20 leagues, it will be the end of Test cricket': Rahul Dravid

As England brought the curtains down on India's T20 World Cup 2022 campaign in the semi-final on Thursday, head coach Rahul Dravid was asked if not playing in the other T20 leagues around the world like the Big Bash, hurt India.

Though Dravid admitted that not playing in other T20 leagues does make a difference but he stated that BCCI has certain limitations and that if Indian players play around the globe, it will affect the domestic season, which will be the end of Test cricket.

"But I think it’s right in the middle of our season and with the kind of demand there would be for Indian players if we allow all the Indians to play in these leagues, we would not have domestic cricket. Our domestic cricket and Ranji Trophy will be finished. That would mean Test cricket would be finished", Dravid said.

“I know a lot of people talk about it, but we have to be very careful and understand the challenges that the BCCI would face. A lot of our boys are asked to play bang in the middle of the season. We have seen what’s that done to West Indies cricket and I would not want Indian cricket to go that way,” he added.

BCCI doesn't allow the contracted Indian players to play in other T20 leagues in the world apart from the IPL. A player can only participate in foreign leagues when he retires.
