Tennis' golden era for ageing players! Rafael Nadal, oldest to lift the French Open Cup

Rafael Nadal yet again proved that he rules the Paris clay as the 23-year-old Norway's Casper Ruud who interestingly trains at the Spaniard's academy perished easily in front of the tennis ace. The World No. 5 has now won 112 of 115 matches at the clay-court in Paris.

An injury striken Nadal who apparently is struggling with his 'day-to-day life also due to the foot issue' lifted his 14th Roland Garros Cup and his 22nd Grand Slam on Sunday. Leaving his 2 major opponents, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer behind, the just 36-turned player is clearly shattering the notion of successfully playing the game of Tennis beyond the age of 35. After winning the 22nd Cup, he became the oldest ever to become the French Open's men's singles champion, surpassing Spain's Andres Gimeno who won the title at 34 in 1972. The Big three have rather only raised the bar after crossing 30. While Nadal has won a total of 8 slams after turning 30, Federer (40) and Djoko (35) have won 4 and 8 respectively.

Nadal who won the Australian Open also has for the first time won 2 back to back Slams after 2010 when he won 3 consecutive slams, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Nadal who suffers from Muller Weiss syndrome in his left foot is now tied with Steffi Graff with 22 Grand Slams. He now aims for the all-time record of 23 major titles currently held by Serena Williams.
