Formula 1: Audi to join Formula One Championship, unveil showcar

Audi will make their Formula One debut in 2026, the Chairman of the Board of Management at Audi AG Markus Duesmann announced at an unveiling of a showcar in Belgium on Friday.

However, the German manufacturer has not confirmed whether they will just supply power units or run their own F1 Team.

Audi enter the top tier of motorsport in an era with greater emphasis on sustainable fuels and an increased electrical component in engines.

From 2026, the electric power output for the drive trains, consisting of an electric motor, battery, control electronics, and a combustion engine, will increase. The electric motor will then be nearly as powerful as the combustion engine and the highly efficient 1.6-litre turbo engines will run on advanced sustainable fuel - which Audi says was a prerequisite for entry into the series.
