Former Indian sprinter PT Usha becomes first woman IOA President

PT Usha was elected as the first woman president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Saturday. The former Indian athlete won the presidential elections unopposed.

The elections were supervised by the Supreme Court-appointed retired judge L Nageswara Rao.

The elections which were originally due in December 2021, was finally completed after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had warned the IOA of a possible suspension if the elections were not held this month.

58-year-old PT Usha has won multiple gold medals for India at the Asian Games and has now become the first Olympian and the first international medallist to head the IOA in its 95-year-old history.
