Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra clinches India's first-ever Silver medal at the World Athletics Championships

Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra added yet another feather to his glorious cap as he won India’s first-ever silver medal in his maiden World Athletics Championships final in Oregon on Sunday.

The Tokyo champion who qualified in the final with a third-career best throw of 88.39m, threw his spear to an impressive 88.13m in his fourth attempt to make it to the 2nd position.

After a fowl first throw, Chopra, kept getting better in his 2nd and 3rd attempt with 82.39 and 86.37m.

The Haryana-based athlete is only the second Indian to win a medal at the marquee event. Long jumper Anju Bobby George had won India's first medal after finishing 3rd in the 2003 edition of the tournament.

India’s Golden Boy also became the first male javelin thrower to wrap an Olympic and World Champion medal at the same time, since Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen achieved the double feat in 2009.

While Granada’s Andersen Peters won gold, Czech athlete Jakub Vadlejch won the bronze medal. India’s Rohit Yadav finished 10th with a best mark of 78.72.
