Vivo to pull out as IPL title sponsor, to transfer the rights to Tata Group: reports

After returning as IPL's title sponsor in the last edition, Vivo is set to transfer the rights of the cash-rich league to Tata Group.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the decision was taken at the Governing Council meeting of the IPL on Tuesday. The Chinese smartphone giants have a couple of years left in their sponsorship deal with the league and during this period, Tata Group will remain the main sponsor. The league will now be called Tata IPL. The BCCI will continue to earn the same fee for the title rights, an official who attended the meeting told Cricbuzz.

Vivo had bagged the title rights at a cost of ₹440 crore a year in 2018. However, after backlash due to political tensions with China, Vivo had paused the deal for a year in 2020 and the rights were transferred to Dream 11.
