Punjab Kings did the unthinkable on Friday when they upstaged hosts Kolkata Knight Riders to create history with the highest successful run-chase in T20 cricket history.

The Kings, bolstered by Jonny Bairstow's century and Shashank Singh's quickfire, completed 262 runs with 8 balls to spare.

It marked a special victory for Punjab as wishes and praises poured in for the team.

It began with the stand-in skipper himself. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Sam Curran likened this new brand of cricket with baseball.

'Very pleasing. Most importantly the win, cricket has turned to baseball isn't it? We're delighted with the two points,' The Englishman said with a smile.

Curran added, 'We had a tough few weeks as a team. Forget about the scores, we deserved this victory.'

After Prabhsimran Singh laid the base for the massive chase, Rilee Rossouw departed early on but Jonny Bairstow then anchored himself as he was joined by Punjab's find of the season, Shashank Singh.

Heaping praises on the batter was former SRH bowling coach Dale Steyn, 'I couldn’t be happier for Shashank! He was with us at SRH a few years ago, such a hard worker, a great team guy, gives it his all and always has a smile on his face.'

While Jos Buttler, who had recently set the record for the highest run-chase in IPL history, that too vs KKR, exclaimed how outrageous game was.

But commentator Harsha Bhogle wondered how much is enough as a new boundary is pushed everyday.

Indian stalwart, R Ashwin appealed for bowlers to be saved, from the carnage being unleashed almost every match.

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan, meanwhile criticised Kolkata Knight Riders, for failing to defend the third 200+ score calling their bowling woes a big worry.
