The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium proved to be a bowlers' graveyard as runs galore in a record IPL match on Wednesday night.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Mumbai Indians by 31 runs to register their first win of IPL 2024 after a loss against KKR in their opening encounter.

Hardik Pandya paid the price for putting SRH into bat as they shattered the highest-ever team total record in IPL history and posted a humongous 277/3.

Playing his first game for SRH, Travis Head made MI bowlers look like headless chickens with a 16-ball half-century. He was dismissed for 64 but that didn't end Mumbai's misery.

Abhishek Sharma took over from there on and he too smashed fifty of 16 balls. Interestingly, those were the fastest half-centuries for SRH in the history of the IPL.

Hyderabad raced to 148/2 in 10 overs, which was the most runs scored in the first 60 balls in the 17-year history of the cash-rich league.

SRH then brought up their 200 in 14.4 overs, which is now the second-fastest 200 in IPL history. The record is held by RCB, who did it in 14.1 overs.

It was the Heinrich Klaasen show post that, as he tamed Mumbai with an unbeaten 80 off just 34 balls.

He stitched an unbeaten 116-run partnership with Aiden Markram as the Sunrisers shattered the highest-ever team total in IPL history and finished with 277/3. The previous best was 263/5 by RCB back in 2013.

Kwena Maphaka finished with 66 runs in 4 overs, which is now the most expensive figures by a bowler on IPL debut.

While many thought that it might turn out to be a one-sided game, Mumbai had other plans.

Their batters came out all guns blazing, with Tilak Varma top-scoring with a 34-ball-64. His innings brought the equation down to 118 required off the last 8 overs and it was anyone's game till then.

However, Hardik's slow innings of 24 off 20 balls cost MI big time. SRH skipper on the other hand gave away just 35 runs in his 4 overs and also picked up 2 crucial wickets, to turn the match in his side's favour.

Mumbai eventually finished with 246/5, which is their highest-ever total in IPL history. Interestingly, a total of 523 Runs were scored in the match, which is the most in a single game of the cash-rich league.

While SRH are now off the mark, Mumbai Indians have now lost both of their games under new captain Hardik.
