IPL 2024 Points Table: Punjab Kings leapfrog Gujarat Titans after 3-wicket victory

In the latest shift of the IPL 2024 standings, the Punjab Kings have ascended past the Gujarat Titans, securing the 5th position on the points table after their win in Ahmedabad. The Kings managed to balance their record with 2 wins and 2 losses across their initial 4 matches after emerging victorious at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, began the day a notch above Punjab, stationed in 5th place, thanks to victories in 2 of their opening 3 games. Despite Gujarat's expectations to dominate, Punjab Kings turned the tables with a spectacular performance by Shashank Singh, resulting in a 3-wicket defeat for the Titans on their own turf.

Under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan, Punjab commenced the day ranked 7th. Their outlook appeared bleak for the majority of their batting innings, seemingly on the verge of their third loss. However, Shashank Singh's explosive unbeaten 61 from just 29 balls dramatically altered the game's trajectory, steering Punjab to a triumphant finish. Their record now mirrors that of Gujarat’s, with both teams winning 2 and losing 2 matches.

At the pinnacle of the points table remains the Kolkata Knight Riders, maintaining their unblemished record with 3 wins out of 3 matches, with the Rajasthan Royals trailing closely in second place, also unbeaten.

The Chennai Super Kings, the reigning champions, find themselves in third place. Their upcoming challenge will see them face off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday, promising another thrilling match in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians find themselves languishing at the bottom of the standings, still searching for their first win of the season after 3 consecutive defeats.
