IPL 2022, MI vs CSK: Dhoni's 28-run cameo helps CSK beat MI by 3 wickets in a nail-biter

A vintage MS Dhoni was on display in the last over as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) by 3 wickets at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. With this loss, five-time champions Mumbai became the first team in IPL history to lose their first seven matches.

Chasing a modest 155-run target, Chennai was off to a poor start as Daniel Sams scalped two wickets upfront. Then Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu steered CSK innings with a 50-run stand. Meanwhile, Mumbai kept on taking wickets at regular intervals and it seemed they would register their first win this season. But with MS Dhoni at one end in the last over, the game was not over yet. Dhoni displayed why he is still regarded as the best finisher in the game and smashed the last ball of the match for a boundary to take Chennai home. This was Chennai's second win in IPL 2022.

Earlier, Mumbai was rocked by Mukesh Choudary as the left-arm pacer got the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the first over. Dewald Brevis was Mukesh's third scalp and it seemed Mumbai innings would crumble like a house of cards. But Suryakumar Yadav steered the MI innings with 21-ball 32. Santner ended Surya's knock as Tilak Verma remained stuck at one end. The promising youngster then powered Mumbai to 155-7 with a 43-ball 51. He was supported by tailender Jaydev Unadkat, who scored 19 runs off 9 deliveries.
