AUS vs AFG: Glenn 'Mad' Maxwell smashes most remarkable double hundred to take Australia to semifinals

As if we haven't already had a rollercoaster of a tournament so far, 5-time champions Australia produced a stunning comeback in the World Cup, beating giant killers Afghanistan by 3 wickets at Wankhede.

The win confirmed Australia's spot in the semi-final in some fashion with Glenn Maxwell's blazing double hundred taking the match away from the Afghans and how!

Deciding to bat first, the Afghans looked determined to post a good total from the start.Ibrahim Zadran starred with the bat, becoming Afghanistan's 1st ever centurion in the World Cup.

His unbeaten 129 helped Afghanistan set a 292-run target for the Kangaroos.

In reply, the Afghan bowlers went nuts and picked up wickets early on in the chase.

Naveen-Ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai struck first and dismantled the top order as Australia stuttered to 69/5 within 15 overs.

The spinners took over from the pacers as Rashid Khan got 2 scalps to his name which put Australia on the ropes at 91/7 at 18.3 overs.

However, destiny had other plans as Glenn Maxwell went beast mode and produced one of the finest displays of batting at Wankhede.

Dropped twice early on, Maxwell made Afghanistan pay dearly as he went on to score a swashbuckling 128-ball 201*, hitting an unbelievable 21 boundaries and 10 sixes.

Throughout the innings, Maxwell battled some serious cramps in the Mumbai heat.

But that didn't put a stop to the run-machine, who was hitting the ball on one leg at times. It was a delight for the Mumbai fans as the Aussies marched on to the semis in style with a 3-wicket win on the night.
