Gill and Kohli climb in latest ICC ODI rankings update

In a significant update to the ICC ODI rankings, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli have advanced following impressive performances in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Gill solidified his position as the top-ranked batter, amassing 817 rating points, comfortably ahead of second-placed Babar Azam by 47 points. Virat Kohli, meanwhile, soared from sixth to fifth position after delivering a century against Pakistan on Sunday, February 23, accumulating 743 rating points.

Despite his recent performances, Babar Azam, who notched a half-century against New Zealand and scored 23 runs against India, maintained his grip on the second spot with 770 points.

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, continues to hold the third position with 757 points, thanks to moderate scores of 41 and 20 in the competition so far. The race at the top remains tight, and with another stellar performance, Kohli could challenge both Babar and Gill for supremacy.

New Zealand’s Will Young and Rachin Ravindra have also made significant strides. Young moved up to 14th with 630 points, while Ravindra catapulted 18 places to 24th following his century, gathering 600 points.

England’s Ben Duckett made headlines with a leap of 27 positions, entering the top 20 at 17th after his remarkable 165-run innings against Australia.

On the bowling front, India’s Kuldeep Yadav held onto his third position after an impressive three-wicket haul against Pakistan in Dubai. Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana, despite not participating due to Sri Lanka's non-qualification, retained his top spot.

South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj remained in fourth, with New Zealand’s Matt Henry moving up to sixth.

In contrast, Pakistan’s pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi faced a decline, dropping five places to ninth after underwhelming performances in the initial games.

His struggle has been a concern for Pakistan, which has already been knocked out following defeats by New Zealand and India.

As the Champions Trophy progresses, further shifts in these rankings are anticipated, with all eyes on the players eager to make their mark in the upcoming matches.
