UEFA: Covid-19 ensured a massive €7 billion loss for European football clubs

Disrupted many times by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the European football has suffered mega losses and according to the governing body UEFA, the revenue loss is approximately €7 billion.

The clubs have to shed their uninterrupted rise in revenue over the previous 20 years given long months of empty stadiums have caused an 88 percent slump in ticket revenues during 2021 as compared to 2019.

Moreover, the clubs lost four billion euros in 2019-2020 and three billion euros in 2020-2021 as a result of declining gate collections, sponsorship and broadcast revenues.

The latest UEFA analysis contains the consolidated results of these same 711 clubs for the year 2020, as well as the projected financial statements of 95 significant teams for the year 2021, with games played behind closed doors.
