Spain's world cup winning players withdraw boycott against national team after assurances

A day after it was reported that the Spain's women's football coach picked a squad for the upcoming UEFA Women's Nations League comprising of the protesting players, the footballers have withdrawn their boycott.

The move came after hours long negotiations between the players, the Spanish federation, the National Sports Council and the women's players' union.

Only two players, who had not been immediately named, opted to leave the team's training camp after receiving guarantees from the government that they would not be sanctioned, with the rest staying after being told that some of their demands for reform would be met.

The country's world cup winning players were on strike, refusing to play for the national team till institutional changes were brought about within the Spanish federation.

This was after the then federation chief Luis Rubiales kissed a footballer, Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain won the World Cup on August 20.
