Sale complete! Todd Boehly-led consortium become Chelsea's new owners

The sale of the top-tier English Premier League side Chelsea which was owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is complete, the club confirmed on Monday. The three-month-long selling process came to an end as the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital led group became the new owners of the club after acquiring it for $5.37 billion.

In its statement, the club informed that Boehly-Clearlake would share joint control and equal governance over Chelsea, however, Boehly who is also the part-owner of Los Angles Dodgers would be the chairman of the consortium.

After the successful acquisition, The American businessman, Boehly said, 'we are honored to become the new custodians of Chelsea Football Club. He further thanked the British government and the Premier League for their help in the process.

Chelsea was under a special license approved by the UK govt which was set to acquire on May 31st since Abramovich's assets were frozen after Russia invaded Ukraine. The Russian owner who had bought the club in 2003 had put the club for sale in early March.
