Fulham's Aleksander Mitrovic handed 8-game ban, club manager also banned for 2 games

Fulham forward Aleksander Mitrovic was handed an eight-game ban on April 04 by the English Football Association, after he grabbed the match referee during his team's FA Cup match at the Old Trafford last month against Manchester United.

The Serbia international was shown a straight red card after pushing and remonstrating aggressively in the face of referee Chris Kavanagh, who had just awarded United a penalty and sent off Fulham winger Willian for a handball in the box.

On top of an automatic three-match ban, Mitrovic was handed another three games for violent conduct towards a match official and further two for using language that was "improper, abusive, insulting and threatening".

The 28-year-old accepted the latter charge, which also came with a £75,000 ($93,000) fine.

Mitrovic said last week that he regretted his actions and had spoken to Kavanagh to apologise.

He served the first match of his ban in Fulham's 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth and will remain unavailable until the Cottagers face Southampton on May 13.

Fulham manager Marco Silva was also shown a red card at the time and will serve a two-game ban as well.

Silva admitted to using abusive and insulting words or behaviour towards Kavanagh and the fourth official, but denied throwing a water bottle towards the assistant referee.

He was fined a total of 40,000 pounds sterling (50,000 US dollars) and given a two-game touchline ban.

An additional 40,000 pounds sterling (50,000 US dollars) fine was issued to Fulham for failing to control their players.
