FIFA World cup 2022 : Back at the World Cup after flopping out in the group stage four years ago, Poland will again largely place their hopes on star striker Robert Lewandowski to fire them into the knockouts for the first time since 1986.

Playing at only his second World Cup, 34-year-old Lewandowski is yet to find the back of the net at a World Cup after Poland ended bottom of their group in Russia 2018.

But the Barcelona striker, already his country's all-time leading scorer with 76 goals, is hoping to break that deadlock this time around despite Poland being drawn in a tough group alongside Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

Poland finished second in their UEFA qualifying group behind England before manager Paulo Sousa left to manage Brazilian giants Flamengo at the end of last year. In came ex-Legia Warsaw boss Czeslaw Michniewiz who immediately steered the Poles to a 2-0 play-off victory over Sweden to book their place in Qatar.

Poland haven't gone past the group stage ever since the 1986 World Cup and in Qatar, it looks like it will be a battle between themselves and Mexico for second place behind group favourites Argentina. Both countries meet each other in the Group C curtain raiser on November 22 before Poland entertain Saudi Arabia on November 26
