FIFA World cup Qatar 2022 : Netherlands return to the World Cup after failing to qualify for Russia in 2018 and they will be determined to use that failure to spur them to success in Qatar.

After watching the World Cup from their sofas in 2018, the three-time World Cup finalists dragged coach Louis Van Gaal out of retirement at the start of the qualifiers for his third spell as the Oranje manager.

The 71-year-old coach, who revealed he was undergoing prostate cancer treatment earlier this year, guided them to the World Cup finals having already taken them to the semi-finals in Brazil back in 2014.

Five wins and two draws in the qualifiers saw the Netherlands top their qualifying group above Turkey and Norway and, with 12 goals, former Manchester United misfit Memphis Depay finished joint top goalscorer in the UEFA region alongside England's Harry Kane.

But it is in defence where the Netherlands lay claim to having the best player in his position in the world. Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk struggled for form at the start of the Premier League season but has since shown signs that he's hitting the ground running as the Qatar World Cup approaches.
