FIFA World Cup 2022: Big guns miss out as France announce 25-man squad

Defending champions France announced their 25-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, starting November 20.

Several big names, including current Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema, PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele were named in the squad.

Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps included Manchester United defender Raphael Varane despite him suffering a knee injury in October. While key players like Juventus' Paul Pogba and Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante, missed out due to major injuries.

AC Milan's Olivier Giroud is also included in the team along with Antoine Griezmann and Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga.

France World Cup squad:

Goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola (West Ham), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Rennes).

Defenders: Lucas Hernandez (Bayern Munich),Raphael Varane (Manchester United), Theo Hernandez (AC Milan), Presnel Kimpembe (PSG), Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool), Jules Kounde (Barcelona), Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich), William Saliba (Arsenal), Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich),

Midfielders: Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid), Aurelien Tchouameni (Real Madrid), Youssouf Fofana (Monaco), Matteo Guendouzi (Marseille), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus Turin), , Jordan Veretout (Marseille).

Forwards: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich), Ousmane Dembele (FC Barcelona), Olivier Giroud (AC Milan), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig).

France are set to begin their world cup title defence against Australia on 23rd November.
