EPL Roundup: Arsenal stunned as they miss chance to go top of the table, Brighton beat Tottenham

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal dropped three vital points in the title race as they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by West Ham United. It was their first home defeat of the season.

The home slide flew out of the traps in the early part of the game but soon found themselves behind when Tomas Soucek slammed home an effort in the 13th minute of the game. West Ham went into the break with a goal's lead and then doubled their lead shortly into the second half as Mavropanos scored in the 55th minute of the game.

It was only the Gunners' third defeat of the season, their first at home, and they find themselves now two points behind Liverpool.

Brighton beat Tottenham in a goal fest

Tottenham Hotspur’s top-four ambitions suffered a blow as they lost 4-2 at Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League. Victory would have put the injury-hit Spurs above Manchester City in the fourth spot of the points table, but the loss against Brighton proved to be a major setback for Spurs.

A powerful early strike by Jack Hinshelwood and Joao Pedro’s penalty gave the hosts a deserved 2-0 lead at half-time as Tottenham struggled to deal with Brighton’s intensity.

Brighton looked nervous, but they held on to move into eighth place in the table while Tottenham remained fifth.
