Brazil forward Neymar to stand trial for corruption & fraud

Brazil & PSG star Neymar Jr. will stand trial in Spain next week on fraud & corruption charges over his transfer to Barcelona in 2013.

Brazilian investment firm DIS is behind the actual complaint that has paved the way for the trial. DIS, who owned 40% of the rights to Neymar when he was a Santos player, has alleged it was not given its rightful cut from the player's sale to the Catalan giants.

Not just Neymar, the Spanish prosecutors have named Neymar's parents, both clubs Barcelona & Santos, and their former presidents as defendants in the trial.

While DIS are gunning for a 5-year jail term for the star footballer, Spanish prosecutors want a two-year prison term for Neymar and the payment of a €10 million fine. They also want a five-year jail term for former Barca President Sandro Rosell and an €8.4m fine for Barcelona.

The court has said Neymar will have to appear in person for the trial on Monday, but it's unclear if he will be asked to stay for the whole hearing which could go on for a fortnight.
