Zaka Ashraf steps down as Pakistan Cricket Board management committee chairman

Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, resigned from his post on Friday, January 19, dealing yet another blow to Pakistani cricket.

After Najam Sethi stepped down as PCB chief in June of last year, Ashraf was expected to take over as PCB head for a three-year term. After presiding over a managing committee meeting in Lahore on Friday, he made his resignation public.

At the end of the meeting, Mr Zaka Ashraf announced that he had decided to tender his resignation as chairman and member of the MC to the honourable Patron Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar," a PCB statement said.

"In his concluding remarks, Mr Zaka Ashraf thanked the honourable Patron PCB for the confidence and trust reposed by him and extended his best wishes and prayers for the betterment of Pakistan and Pakistan cricket," the statement added.

Notably, since Zaka Ashraf's tenure which began last year, Pakistan cricket has not accomplished anything significant. The men's cricket squad was eliminated from the league rounds of the ODI World Cup in India and did not advance to the Asia Cup final.

Following the miserable World Cup campaign, the Ashraf-led management committee also made some significant changes to coaching and captaincy positions.

After the World Cup, Ashraf summoned team director Mickey Arthur and coach Grant Bradburn to report to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore before both foreign coaches eventually resigned. Babar Azam resigned as the captain in all forms.
