Zaka Ashraf appointed Head of PCB management committee

The Pakistan government has announced the formation of a new 10-member management committee for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which will be led by Zaka Ashraf.

This committee will serve for a duration of four months and is set to convene its inaugural meeting in Lahore on Thursday.

Previously, Zaka Ashraf was considered a strong candidate for the position of PCB Chairman. However, the election was postponed due to legal challenges against the formation of the board of governors responsible for the election process.

As part of these developments, Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, who was serving as the PCB election commissioner, has been removed from his position. In his place, advocate supreme court Mahmood Iqbal Khakwani has been appointed.

The election for the new PCB Chairman was initially scheduled for June 26 but was postponed following a petition by Gul Mohammad Kakar, a former member of the PCB management committee. The Baluchistan High Court has set a hearing for July 17 in response to Kakar's petition.

During the formation of the board of governors, former chairman Najam Sethi had established a 10-member committee, which included two direct nominees from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is the PCB patron. Subsequently, acting chairman Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana made changes to the board of governors, leading to the legal challenge by Kakar.

This recent development resulted in the replacement of representatives from larger cities such as Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar with individuals from smaller cities including Dera Murad Jamali, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Bahawalpur.
