Women’s ODI World Cup: Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet steer India to a thumping 155 run win vs West Indies

After their disappointing loss against New Zealand, Women in Blue made a strong comeback as they crushed West Indies to win their 2nd match in the ongoing ODI World Cup by 155 runs at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

India won the toss and went in to bat first. Despite 3 wickets falling back to back, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana stood strong and went on to score 123 off 119 runs. Coming in to bat at no. 5, Harmanpreet Kaur provided clinical support to Mandhana as both stitched together 184 run-stand which is also India's best partnership figure so far in World Cup history. Both the batters revived the team and helped India post a mammoth 318 run target which is India's highest in ODI World Cups.

Although the Windies women had a powerful start with opener Deandra Dottin scoring 62 in 46 balls and Hayley Mathews adding another 43, the Indian bowling line-up rattled the Windies line-up post that. While Sneh Rana picked 3 wickets and Meghna Singh picked 2, Jhulan Goswami, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Pooja Vastrakar got a wicket each.

West Indies were all out for 162 in 40 overs as India registered their 2nd win in 3 games in the World Cup so far.
