Will Babar Azam be sacked as Pakistan's captain?

Babar has captained Pakistan in 66 matches so far across all three formats, out of which the team has won 40 matches, while they've been defeated in 21 matches.

Will Babar Azam be sacked as Pakistan's captain?

After a string of disappointing performances from the Men in Green, Babar Azam's captaincy is under some harsh scrutiny.

As per an ESPNCricinfo report, the newly-appointed officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board are aiming at a revamp and are looking to 'challenge the status quo of the team if necessary'. This evidently indicates that the Najam Sethi-headed board might also either go forward with split captaincy or take away the captaincy duties entirely from Babar Azam, who is currently the team's leader across formats.

The current management who have been on a spree of making some tough calls, from disbanding the selection committee to bringing in Shahid Afridi to naming Shan Masood the vice-captain in ODI, will now analyse the 28-year-old's role in the 3 formats as the captain.

Masood's elevation was surprising as he last played the 50-over format in 2019 and had visibly been out of the conversations as well. He didn't even make it to the playing XI for the first two ODIs against New Zealand.

The leadership role has been tough for Babar Azam in the recent past. After losing the T20 World Cup final, Azam, unfortunately, became the first Pak captain to lose four consecutive Test matches at home. Pakistan have not won any of the 3 Test series played at home in 2022.

Including all three formats, Babar has captained Pakistan in 66 matches so far, out of which the team has won 40 matches, while the team has seen defeat in 21 matches.
