'White coach is going to pick white cricketer': Usman Khawaja on racial bias in Australia

The first South Asian Muslim in Australian Cricket, Usman Khawaja, who has been able to carve a niche in Test cricket for himself has opened up about racism in Australian cricket.

While the Test opener who recently scored a 195 at SCG against South Africa did not outright accuse anyone, feels that the overwhelming whiteness of Australian cricket is the reason behind the racism.

In a podcast show, Drop, the 36-year-old highlighted that the bias is subconscious and went on to add, 'if you have 2 cricketers one white, one brown, both the same, the white coach is going to pick the white cricketer just because he has a son who might look similar to him'

Khawaja who made his Test debut in 2011, further blatantly said, 'There's been plenty of times, I should have been picked, but was not

The Australian cricketer who has so far played 56 Tests, 40 ODIs and 9 T20Is is the only South Asian to play Tests for Australia.
