IPL franchise Punjab Kings have announced the appointment of Sanjay Bangar as their Head of Cricket Development for the upcoming 2024 season. This role marks Bangar's return to the franchise, having previously been part of their coaching staff from 2014 to 2016.
A statement from the franchise highlighted Bangar's extensive experience and the positive impact they anticipate he will have on their cricket development initiatives. "Mr. Bangar brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our organization, and we are confident that under his leadership, our cricket development programs will reach new heights," the statement said.
During Bangar's earlier tenure in 2014, the team, then known as Kings XI Punjab, achieved their best performance to date by finishing as runners-up. However, the team has struggled to reach the playoffs since then.
Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Bangar stated, "It's my privilege to be with the Punjab Kings again. We have a good core of players as evidenced by the fact that we have the lowest number of player releases this year. The challenge is to give the squad the best support possible during and after the season to make the team stronger and deliver success."
Bangar, who has also served as the batting coach for the Indian national team, was the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 and 2023 IPL seasons. However, his contract was not renewed for the upcoming season.

In the final, Australia triumphed over India by six wickets on a slow and sluggish pitch. The Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata, the venue for the second semifinal between Australia and South Africa, also received an "average" rating from the ICC. This low-scoring match saw Australia chasing down South Africa's total of 212 with seven wickets lost in 47.2 overs. Javagal Srinath, former Indian pacer and ICC match referee, however, rated Eden Gardens' outfield as "very good."
The ICC defines an "average" pitch as one lacking in carry, bounce, or occasional seam movement, but maintaining consistency in carry and bounce. It may offer a degree of turn for spinners but falls short of the "very good" category in terms of carry, bounce, and turn.

165 players to go under the hammer
A total of 165 players will go under the hammer during the auction. Five franchises including Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be bidding in this auction to fill the vacant spots of their teams. 104 Indian players and 61 overseas players will take part in the Women's Premier League 2024 auction on Saturday.
Purse available with every team
For the inaugural season, teams were allocated a purse of INR 12 crore. With the addition of the extra INR 1.5 crore, the total purse available for the auction will increase to 13.5 crore.
Gujarat Giants now have the largest purse after releasing 11 players, with INR 5.95 crore available to them. The remaining sums for other teams are as follows:&nbsp;

The ongoing feud between S Sreesanth and Gautam Gambhir took another turn on Friday, with the Legends League Cricket reportedly sending a legal notice to Sreesanth. The development follows Sreesanth's claim that Gambhir referred to him as a 'fixer' during a match.
According to India Today, the LLC has stipulated that discussions with Sreesanth will only commence once he deletes the videos criticizing Gambhir from his social media platforms.
LLC authorities said on Thursday that they will conduct an &ldquo;internal investigation&rdquo; after Sreesanth uploaded the scathing video on his Instagram. The LLC said if evidence of misconduct is found, it will be "dealt with strictly".
On Wednesday, the umpires had to intervene and separate the two players. Sreesanth was handed a life ban by the BCCI's disciplinary committee due to his alleged involvement in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing scandal.
However, the ban was reduced to seven years in 2019 by the Supreme Court of India.

Juventus midfielder may face a 4-year ban in a doping case in Italy. He had tested positive for testosterone earlier.

Anti-doping prosecutors in Italy requested a maximum four-year ban for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba on Thursday after the World Cup winner tested positive for testosterone.
Pogba opted not to make a plea bargain with Italy's anti-doping agency, meaning the case will be tried before the country's anti-doping court.
If the four-year ban is confirmed, it could end the 30-year-old Pogba&rsquo;s career.
Four-year bans are standard under the World Anti-Doping Code but can be reduced in cases where an athlete can prove their doping was not intentional, if the positive test was a result of contamination or if they provide &ldquo;substantial assistance&rdquo; to help investigators.
Pogba&rsquo;s positive test was announced in September, stemming from an exam that was carried out after Juventus&rsquo; game at Udinese on Aug. 20. Pogba did not play in the Serie A match but was on Juve&rsquo;s bench.
Pogba has made no public comments on the case.
&ldquo;Humanely, I&rsquo;m sorry for Paul,&rdquo; Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said in October.
The doping case is another negative note for a player who has been bothered by injuries ever since rejoining Juventus from Manchester United in July of last year. He was ruled out of France&rsquo;s run to the World Cup final last year due to a knee injury, played in only six Serie A matches for Juventus last season and two this season.
There&rsquo;s also been a police investigation ongoing in France into allegations that Pogba was targeted by extortionists &mdash; including by his older brother Mathias, who has denied any wrongdoing.
Pogba scored for France in the 4-2 win over Croatia in the 2018 World Cup final. He played in 178 matches for Juventus from 2012-16.

It all began with an altercation between LSG's Naveen-ul-Haq and Virat Kohli during the 16th over of 2nd innings during IPL match between RCB vs LSG . The star batter for the RCB, Virat Kohli, was not pleased with what Naveen-ul-Haq said to him when he approached him. Amit Mishra of LSG intervened to defuse the situation, but he ended up getting into a fight.
Virat Kohli and LSG coach Gautam Gambhir later engaged in a heated discussion about what happened on the field during the game. Attempts to calm Gautam Gambhir down and remove him from the ground were met with an angry expression from the LSG mentor. Even after Gautam Gambhir was shown all the details by Virat Kohli, the veteran player was still not impressed.&nbsp;
What's next for Gambhir?
Following the conclusion of IPL 2023, Gautam Gambhir left Lucknow Super Giants as a team mentor and joined his previous IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor. Gambhir had previously led KKR from 2011 to 2017, winning two titles.

Alyssa Healy has been appointed Australia women's cricket team's full-time captain across all formats following legendary Meg Lanning's retirement and will begin her new role during their tour of India starting later this month.
Australia will play a one-off Test, three ODIs and as many T20Is starting December 21 in Mumbai.
Healy had earlier led Australia since June in a series against England, Ireland and the West Indies.
All-rounder Tahlia McGrath, who recently led Adelaide Strikers to back-to-back WBBL titles, has been named as Healy's deputy.
The 33-year-old Healy, had been on expected lines, having earlier served as vice-captain of the national side under Lanning and has 14 years of international experience under her belt.
Healy was honoured to don the new role and said she would do whatever it takes to keep Australia's flag flying.
"I am honoured to accept the role of captain and am grateful for the opportunity to lead our team. I've really enjoyed the support of the players over the past few months and their encouragement to continue to be who I am and lead the group like I normally would from within," Healy was quoted as saying in cricket.com.au.
"My approach will remain consistent to what it has been previously, but I'll make my own mark on the role and be sure that I'm doing the best I possibly can for this group to maintain the success that we've had." Healy termed it a good time to lead the national team.
"It's an exciting time to be involved with this team, we're seeing the emergence of incredible young talent and are challenging ourselves to continually evolve as a group." Healy and McGrath's appointments were ratified at a Cricket Australia (CA) board meeting on Friday.
Healy's first big assignment as Australia skipper will be next year's T20 World Cup, to be held in Bangladesh.
McGrath said it was a privilege to be appointed as vice-captain and is looking forward towards working alongside Healy.
"Alyssa and I have played together for a long time, we know our respective leadership styles well and I look forward to helping her lead our group as we embark on a busy, but exciting international schedule," McGrath said.
Commenting on the appointments, Cricket Australia general manager of high performance and national teams, Ben Oliver said: "Alyssa is an outstanding player and leader who has earned enormous respect both on and off the field.
"Alyssa brings a wealth of experience to the role, and we have great confidence in her ability to successfully lead the Australian women's team in tandem with Tahlia as vice-captain.
"We are extremely fortunate to have a talented and experienced group of players who will provide great support to Alyssa and Tahlia as the team evolves and seeks to build on its outstanding performances."

This decision follows the IOC's steps initiated a year ago to gradually reintegrate Russia and Belarus, its military ally, into international sports. It also comes nine months after the IOC suggested sports federations consider allowing individual athletes to compete.
The responsibility of determining and implementing the conditions of neutral status for athletes lies with each Olympic sport's governing body. Eligible athletes must not have actively supported the war or be contracted to military or state security agencies. Those granted neutral status are required to compete without any national symbols, including flag, anthem, or colors. However, Russia remains barred from team sports events.
