Virat Kohli, who relinquished the T20 captaincy, might give up the ODI captaincy as well, feels Ravi Shastri whose tenure with the Indian team as their head coach ended after the World T20. While speaking to India Today, Shastri said that unless Kohli wants to give it up or he is mentally fatigued where he says he wants to focus on his batting he won't give up, but it can happen in the near future.

Shastri, who does not want the 33-year-old batter to give up his captaincy, said that Kohli himself would not want to give up, but his mind and body will make him do so. Kohli has been rested for the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand. He will also miss the first Test against New Zealand to recover from the bubble fatigue.

Shastri also highlighted the importance of split captaincy during the Covid times. He said that many players would want to take a break from the game from time to time and with split captaincy the pressure on players individually will also reduce.
