VIDEO: Stampede in Hyderabad as thousands rush to buy India-Australia match tickets

Around 20 people were injured after a stampede broke out at the Gymkhana grounds in Hyderabad as thousands of fans thronged the arena to purchase tickets for the much-anticipated third T20I between India and Australia.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) decided to sell offline tickets at the Gymkhana grounds for the match that will take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on September 25. But the decision proved to be fatal as more than 30,000 people showed up and stood in queue since 5 in the morning, causing utter chaos at the ground.

The Hyderabad Police had a tough time dealing with the pandemonium as they lathi-charged to disperse the massive crowd and restore control which resulted in injuries to many people. Several persons, including women, caught in the crowd fell unconscious as well. Many members of the police force were also hurt in the melee.

Australia currently lead the 3-match series 1-0 and the 2nd game will take place on Friday in Nagpur.
