In the second Test match between South Africa and India at Newlands in Cape Town, Temba Bavuma, would not be there to lead his side. The right-handed batter had a hamstring injury in the first inning of the Centurion game, and it hasn't healed.

During India's first innings, Bavuma hurt his left hamstring trying to chase the ball to the boundary. Elgar captained the game as he left with a member of the South African team's support staff and didn't come back.

"Temba is not in a great physical state. He was ready to bat at every turn. We kept monitoring it. Certain things are tactical. We felt the potential riskâ€æ there is a potential risk he could aggravate. He will have it assessed in two weeks. He is definitely out for Cape Town," South Africa's coach said.

Zubayr Hamza will join the squad, the coach added.
