Team India's 5 moments of sheer brilliance in Test cricket under Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli stunned the world and announced his decision to step down from his post as Test captain of Team India. Let's take a look at 5 moments of sheer brilliance under his reign, that will definitely go down in history.

1. When Team India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in Australia

After 71 years, 31 series and 98 Test matches, Team India, led by a very capable Virat Kohli, destroyed the pride of the Kangaroos by defeating them in their own backyard. The men in blue triumphantly lifted the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the first time, winning the four-match Test series 2-1.

2. Journey to the finals in the World Test Championship

After defeating strong teams like Australia, England, West Indies, the Indian team paved its way to the final of the first edition of the World Test Championship. While the team missed the title and had to face defeat at the hands of New Zealand, the journey to the final was a nail-biting affair, to say the least.

3. Journey to the semi-finals in the 2019 World Cup

In the 2019 ODI World Cup played in England, under the leadership of Captain Kohli, Team India made its way to the semi-finals. The Indian team cemented its place in the final four by beating strong contenders like South Africa, Australia and Pakistan. However, in the semi-finals, the team had to face defeat at the hands of New Zealand. Kohli not only captained the team but also made a significant contribution with his bat by scoring a staggering 443 runs in 9 matches during the tournament.

4. Team India dominated bilateral T20 series

India created history under the captaincy of Kohli in T20 cricket. The men in blue ensured that they won the T20 series against strong teams like South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia in their own backyards over the years.

5. #1 side in Test Cricket for 42 months

Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, the Indian team remained number one in the ICC Test Rankings from 2016 to 2020. During this tenure, the team conquered bastions like Sri Lanka, West Indies and Australia and kept the #1 title for nearly four consecutive years.
