T20 World Cup 2022: Injury misery for Deepak Chahar - How pacer has missed most of 2022 season!

T20 World Cup 2022: Injury misery for Deepak Chahar - How pacer has missed most of 2022 season!

In Deepak Chahar India saw a potential future, an on-point wicket-taker and a great hitter down the order, Chahar fills all blanks for the Indian team, especially in the shortest format of the game.

But his never-ending injury woes have only marred his chances on the international stage.

In the last 12 months, the all-rounder has only played 4 ODIs and 10 T20Is. He also missed the complete IPL 2022, due to his back injury.

India has so far in 2022 played 11 bilateral series across formats and Chahar has participated in 4 of them. While he was turning out to be one of the favourites for T20 World Cup 2022, his rather bumpy ride this year has ended his chance of travelling to Australia, even as a reserve.

In February, during the 3rd T20I against the West Indies, Chahar suffered a quadricep muscle tear, forcing him to miss cricket for almost 6 months. (GFX) He missed series against Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, New Zealand, South Africa, England and West Indies before making a return against Zimbabwe in the 3-match ODI series.

While he played in the Asia Cup, Chahar missed the 3-match T20I series against Australia. He again returned to play against South Africa, but could only play in the 3-match T20I series, he was ruled out of the ODI series due to his back issues.

While many saw him as a fitting replacement for an injured Jasprit Bumrah for the T20 World Cup, any hopes of him representing the nation on the grandest stage of them all have come crashing down.
