South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen retires from Test cricket

Weeks after being snubbed for the 2-match series against India, South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen announced his retirement from Test cricket on January 08, 2024.

Klaasen represented the Proteas in 4 Tests between 2019 and 2023. He last played international red-ball cricket in March 2023.

In a social media post Klaasen wrote, 'It's a difficult decision that I have made because it is by far my favourite format of the game.'

He said the baggy Test cap was the 'most precious cap I have ever been handed'.

The 32-year-old did not provide any reason for his retirement. Klaasen becomes the second senior South African cricketer to retire from Test cricket after Dean Elgar bid farewell against India in the second Test.
