<p>The Indian spinners, led by Kuldeep Yadav, dictated the terms of the match, and India won the trophy without losing a match, reflecting their dominance in the tournament they won back in 2002 and 2013.&nbsp;</p>
<p>No other team has won the event thrice.</p>
<p>Rohit Sharma&rsquo;s performance was not a one-man show, as the spinners set it up nicely by restricting the Kiwis to a gettable 251 for seven. Later Shreyas Iyer (48) and KL Rahul (34 not out) soaked in pressure, ensuring that the team stays unbeaten. Rohit&rsquo;s ebullient 83-ball 76 had already given them the cushion to overhaul the target in 49 overs.</p>
<p>KL Rahul with his 34 not out led the side past the finish line after India lost well-settled batters. Pacer Nathan Smith, who replaced injured Matt Henry in the line-up, felt the heat as Rohit hammered him for two sixes and as many fours in the beginning of the chase.</p>

<p>His belief in his own defense also seemed to have come back as he smothered Santner and Bracewell quite effectively.</p>
<p>India&rsquo;s spinners can rightfully claim a good chunk of credit for this victory. Kuldeep (2/40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/45) were excellent alongside Axar and Ravindra Jadeja as the quartet conceded only 144 runs in the 38 overs bowled between them.</p>
<p>However, the start made by New Zealand did not justify the total that they eventually managed. They raced to 69 for 1 in 10 overs despite losing Will Young to Chakravarthy, who came in the sixth over.</p>
<p>The four-pronged Indian spin attack assumed control of the proceedings from that point, and New Zealand could not find a boundary for the next 81 balls.</p>
<p>Kuldeep and Varun found an appreciable turn off the deck, while Axar and Jadeja relied more on quickness to cramp Kiwis batters for space.</p>
<p>Chakravarthy mixed his endless ensemble of tricks and accounted for Phillips to end a promising 57-run alliance for the fifth wicket. Mitchell, who cleverly manipulated the field for singles and twos, brought up his fifty in 91 balls.</p>
<p>Towards the end, Bracewell&rsquo;s enterprise meant that Kiwis would get 50 runs in the last five overs, but the effort was way too less on the night that firmly belonged to India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Uttarakhand&rsquo;s Suraj Singh broke the 1,000m national youth record to hog the limelight on the final day of the National Youth Athletics Championships here on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The boys 1,000m race at the Patliputra Sports Complex turned out to be the most exciting event of the day as the top two runners ran better than 15-year-old national youth record of 2 minute 27.20 seconds which was set by Rahul Pal in 2010.</p>
<p>Singh&rsquo;s gold-winning time was 2:26.04, while silver winner Vikas Kumar of Uttar Pradesh clocked 2:26.59 to also dip below the earlier national youth record.</p>
<p>Sohit Vijender of Haryana won the bronze with a time of 2:27.27 which was better than the meet record of 2:28.89 clocked last year by Md Nooruddin in Bilaspur.</p>
<p>The boys javelin throw gold went to Himanshu of Haryana whose best effort was 72.00m.</p>
<p>Misti Karmakar of West Bengal took home the girls javelin throw gold with a distance of 45.04m.</p>

<p>Moments after India sealed the Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli broke into an impromptu &lsquo;Dandiya' dance, holding the stumps. Head coach Gautam Gambhir walked around the field with a rare wide grin, hugging his wards.</p>
<p>Those were not unusual scenes after such a resplendent night. Beyond the obvious, that footage carried a profound inner meaning for the troika. Few individuals in the last six months have been hounded as much as Gambhir, Rohit and Kohli after the team's largely ordinary run.</p>
<p>While the criticism might have had some merit in it, the way it was directed at them was not justified. But now, they have a lifeline, a firmer ground to control their own destiny and a much clearer path to the future for the team.</p>
<p>It came after wholehearted trust in the process that the management set in place before this event, as indicated by Rohit.</p>
<p>"Someone was telling me that we've lost only one game in the last three ICC tournaments. So, it's a great milestone to have. So, it shows a lot of quality in the team, a lot of depth, a lot of understanding within the group," skipper Rohit said after the title triumph on Sunday night.</p>
<p>Rohit said that attitude helped the team to ward off external &ldquo;pressure.&rdquo; "There's too much pressure from outside. If India loses one game. There's so much speculation that happens. But, the boys have actually managed to put that aside and focus on how to win games and how to enjoy the game," he added.</p>
<p>Rohit was the first one to be targeted because of the way he got out after making those seemingly invaluable 30s and 40s in the longer versions of the game.</p>
<p>The 37-year-old saw a different side to it after making a match-winning 76 against New Zealand in the title clash.</p>
<p>"See, representing India is not a joke. Everyone wants to represent India with a lot of integrity. I contributed a lot in the 2019 World Cup, but we didn't win. So, it wasn't fun. Even if you score 30 or 40 runs and win the match, you get more satisfaction and happiness.</p>
<p>"So, I think it was very important for me to do something and bring the team in a position where there is a little comfort for the rest of the batting order," he added.</p>
<p>But to reach this point, India had to wade through a sea of criticism, particularly after the management's decision to pick five spinners &mdash; Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar.</p>
<p>The first four played and contributed consistently in India's victories &mdash; either by taking wickets or choking the run flow.</p>
<p>But the thought leaders were never in doubt of their strategy, and close observations of the earlier matches in Dubai such as ILT20 helped them arrive at that decision.</p>
<p>"We knew the conditions would be difficult, but we adapted well. We had to go with more spinners than the seamers."</p>
<p>Staying in Dubai for the ICC showpiece was a decision beyond their control, for which the team came under fire for no real reason.</p>
<p>Unmindful of such outside talks, Rohit said India were smart enough to use the conditions to their advantage.</p>
<p>"We saw how much these surfaces were used before we came here. I knew that the slower bowlers will come into play. So, we wanted to pick the squad based on that,&rdquo; he said.</p>
<p>However, selecting the right squad is different from actually winning the matches because, as Gambhir hinted earlier, the four pitches used at the DICS offered different challenges to the team.</p>
<p>"Keeping the teams under 240s under 250 is a big effort. We think that the wicket is helping the spinners. But you must have seen that in a few matches, no ball has turned in such a way that the ball is turning every time, in every over," Rohit acknowledged.</p>
<p>While the bowlers might have had a certain edge because of that unpredictable spin, it put the batters under greater peril.</p>
<p>"Sometimes, one or two balls turn in between, but that is the challenge that you are facing as a batter. You don't have to be ready for the ball that is turning. But it's the straight ball.&rdquo; Kohli's dismissal in the final underlined that point.</p>
<p>The master batter, who has made 218 runs at an average of 54 with a hundred and a fifty to quell the talks around his form, played for the turn but off-spinner Michael Bracewell's stock ball was straighter than he expected to get caught in front of the wicket.</p>
<p>"The straight ball that is coming, which is 80% out of 100, or 70%, you have to be ready for that. So, I think that is the adaptation and that is what these guys have shown in the middle.</p>
<p>"I am proud of them because India is a bloody good team without a doubt," he said.</p>
<p>Now they have two global trophies to show as a validation as well.</p>

<p>The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to register its protest with the ICC for ignoring its CEO and Champions Trophy tournament director Sumair Ahmed Syed during the event's closing ceremony in Dubai.</p>
<p>A source in the PCB said on Monday that chairman Mohsin Naqvi was not satisfied with the explanation given by the ICC for not having Ahmed on stage at the presentation ceremony on Sunday.</p>
<p>"The ICC, apparently, has said it had prepared for Mohsin Naqvi to be on stage so when he didn't show up for the final, they changed their plan," the source said.</p>
<p>"The ICC only invites the head of the host board such as the president, vice president, chairman, or CEO - to participate in the awards ceremony.</p>
<p>Other board officials, even if present at the venue, are not part of the stage proceedings," the ICC spokesperson added.</p>
<p>India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the title clash.</p>
<p>The PCB has rejected this explanation and noted that the ICC had made a number of errors during the tournament regarding Pakistan's status as host nation.</p>
<p>This included changing the CT 2025 logo in the live broadcasts feed of the India versus Bangladesh game and then playing the Indian national anthem in the Australia versus England match in Lahore.</p>
<p>The ICC claimed due to a mix up with the playlist the Indian national anthem was played for a few seconds before the error was corrected.</p>
<p>BCCI president Roger Binny presented the white jackets to India players and the medals to match officials, while ICC chairman Jay Shah handed the trophy to skipper Rohit Sharma and gave the medals to the winners.</p>
<p>BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and New Zealand Cricket's CEO Roger Twose were also present on stage.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the PCB chairman has extended his gratitude to his team, law enforcement agencies, provincial governments, ICC officials and the visiting teams for the success of the tournament.</p>
<p>"Your commitment and collective efforts ensured the seamless execution of the prestigious tournament," he said on his social media handle.</p>
<p>"Pakistan takes immense pride in hosting the Champions trophy and making it a spectacle for cricket fans worldwide."</p>

<p>Over his IPL tenure of 150 matches, Axar has amassed 1,653 runs at a strike rate of 130.88 and claimed 123 wickets with an economical left-arm spin, maintaining a bowling economy of 7.28.</p>
<p>Having served as India's vice-captain during their resounding 4-1 T20I series defeat of England at home this year, Axar&rsquo;s anticipated elevation to DC captaincy for IPL 2025 marks a significant challenge in his career.</p>
<p>The franchise continues its quest for a maiden championship title.</p>
<p>KL Rahul, a former leadership option, joined DC for Rs 14 crore at last year's mega auction.</p>
