Sourav Gangly, Jay Shah set for the second term in BCCI?

With Supreme Court, the Indian board and the SC-appointed amicus curiae agreeing in principle to amend the BCCI constitution, the office-bearers of BCCI are likely to get significant relief from the apex court.

The amendment will allow two consecutive terms to its president, secretary and other office-bearers irrespective of their earlier term in state associations.

After the apex court's verdict in due course, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Honorary secretary Jay Shah will be allowed to run for their second term at the board. The BCCI election is tentatively scheduled to take place by the end of September.

The bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli also agreed to remove the 70-year age cap on BCCI's representative to the ICC. This will allow the former BCCI president N Srinivasan to enter the global cricket body for a fresh start after a break of more than seven years.

As per the SC-approved constitution, an office-bearer who has held any post for two consecutive terms either in a state association or in BCCI shall not be eligible to contest any further election without completing a cooling period of three years.
