India all-rounder Shardul Thakur hit his maiden first-class hundred while playing against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy on Sunday, 3 March.

After Tamil Nadu's first innings score of 146, Mumbai found themselves in trouble despite Musheer Khan’s 55. Sai Kishore starred with the bowl, taking 6 wickets, including Ajinkya Rahane for 19. Shreyas Iyer also made his cricketing return in this match but fell for just 3 runs.

But Thakur stood resilient, building a century-run stand with the wicketkeeper-batter, Hardik Tamore to get the most successful side in the tournament back in the game. He also added 79 runs with Tanush Kotian for 9th wicket.

His knock was an aggressive one, looking to take on the bowlers regardless of how they performed as he went on to 13 boundaries and four maximums.

Shardul Thakur was over the moon after he hit Ajith Ram for six straight down the ground and then celebrated his maiden century in FC cricket in style. He was lauded by the Mumbai dressing room as he helped the team out of trouble.

With plenty of time on their hands, the home side will look to establish a bigger lead so that they can bowl out the opposition and make it to their 47th final, which is the most by any side in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
