Shakib Al Hasan becomes Bangladesh's Test captain for third time

Shakib Al Hasan has become Bangladesh's Test captain for the third time after the Bangladesh Cricket Board appointed him as the new skipper of their Test team following Mominul Haque's recent decision to step down from the captaincy. Liton Das has been named as the vice-captain.

In a press conference, BCB president Nazmul Hassan said, "They will be in the positions until a further decision is made."

This is Shakib's third term as a Test captain of Bangladesh. The 35-year old allrounder was appointed as a Test captain of Bangladesh in 2009 but was later dismissed from captaincy in 2011. He got back the captaincy in 2017 and remained on the post until he faced a 2-year ban by International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

The BCB president further added, "We had three names in our hand. If Shakib was not interested we would have chosen the duo from the three available options."

Shakib has captained Bangladesh in 14 Test matches in which the team won 3 and lost 11 matches.
