Shahnawaz Dahani: PCB set to take action again pacer for outburst | Asia Cup 2023

Pakistan Cricket Board is planning to take action against pacer Shahnawaz Dahani, who vented out his frustration on social media after being left out of the Asia Cup squad.

Along with Dahani, batter Shan Masood was also not included in the roster for the continental tournament. This decision comes alongside the return of all-rounder Faheem Ashraf, who makes a comeback after nearly two years.

Dahani's omission from the squad prompted him to criticize former Pakistani captain Rashid Latif. Dahani lashed out after Latif shared a List A statistical rundown of Pakistani fast bowlers; however, Dahani's stats were noticeably absent from the list.

Dahani has taken 56 wickets in 31 List A matches. Amongst the present cohort of players, only Shaheen Afridi (75) and Faheem Ashraf (92) have accumulated more wickets than him.

Dahani's frustration didn't stop at Rashid Latif; he also directed his ire at journalists for not highlighting the stats that support his inclusion in the squad. In a post on platform X, he voiced his dissatisfaction with the lack of inquiries into his exclusion.

In a surprising turn, Dahani subsequently removed his tweets. However, reports have emerged suggesting that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may impose penalties on the pacer for his outburst.

The head of the national men's selection committee, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, unveiled the squads for the ACC Men's Asia Cup and a three-match One-Day International series against Afghanistan. The team, comprising 18 players, is set to face Afghanistan in Sri Lanka between August 22 and 26. Subsequently, the roster will be trimmed to 17 players for the Asia Cup, slated to kick off at the Multan Cricket Stadium on August 30, with Pakistan squaring off against Nepal.
