SA20 League: MI Cape Town announce coaching staff for inaugural edition

Mumbai Indians' Cape Town franchise appointed former Australian cricketer Simon Katich as their head coach, while Hashim Amla has been named the batting coach of the side for the SA20.

The announcement comes after there were speculations regarding Mark Boucher's appointment instead, whose stint as South Africa's national team coach ends after the T20 World Cup.

While Boucher won't be taking over the Cape Town franchise, there are growing murmurs in the media about his impending arrival at the Mumbai Indians, where he will take up the top job after Mahela Jayawardene was elevated to the franchise's global head of performance.

Former South African all-rounder Robin Peterson, meanwhile, has been appointed as the manager of MI Cape Town with New Zealander James Pamment taking up the fielding coach's job.

In a statement put out by the team, Katich termed the appointment as a 'great honour' and said that it is a special opportunity to put together a new team.

The Mumbai Indians' Cape Town franchise has so far signed five players - Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan, and Liam Livingstone.

South Africa's inaugural T20 League, the SA20, is scheduled to be played in January & February next year.
