Reports: IPL league matches to be held in Maharashtra, playoffs in Gujarat

BCCI is planning to hold the next season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League in India itself and is likely organise the showpiece event in Maharashtra and Gujarat, suggests a Times of India report.

A BCCI source told TOI, the Indian cricket board is mulling over hosting the league stage matches in Maharashtra and the playoffs in Gujarat.

While BCCI after its meeting announced that the next edition of IPL will be held in India, they also said that if the Covid-19 situation worsens, they may shift it to UAE just like the past 2 years.

The league matches will be held at 3 venues in Mumbai-Wankhede, Brabourne, and DY Patil stadiums and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The play-offs could take place in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the report said.

It further said that depending on the Covid situation in Maharashtra, BCCI may allow at least 25% capacity crowds this time for the glitzy event which will take place in April.
