Participation in 2025 Champions Trophy depends on security situations in Pakistan, says Anurag Thakur

Decision on India's participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy which is to be held in Pakistan will be taken when the time comes, Anurag Thakur, the union sports minister said on Friday. Citing 'security issues' for the international teams, Thakur raised doubts about India's participation at the event.

It is after 2 decades that the country will host a major ICC tournament. Pakistan last organised the World Cup with India and Sri Lanka in 1996. Teams have been reluctant in visiting Pakistan after the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team.

When international championships are held many things are taken into consideration, when the time comes, we will see, what we have to do. We will assess the security situation then and decide, Thakur said.

Champions Trophy was last held in 2017 which Pakistan won after defeating India in the finals.
