PAK vs AUS: major blast in Peshawar, Australian team's security increased

As Australia started their 1st Test match on Pakistani soil after a long gap of 24 years, a massive bomb blast killing over 30 civilians rocked Peshawar on the same day.

The blast took place in a mosque in Peshawar where reportedly a suicide bomber killed over 30 and injured close to 75 people. The 1st Test in Rawalpindi is happening barely 200 km away and the blast can affect the security detailing of the visiting Australian cricket team.

In 2009, the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked in Lahore and narrowly escaped. That unfortunate event led to the cancellation of international cricket in Pakistan and it took over a decade for foreign national teams to return to the troubled nation.

The blast in Peshawar might not affect the visiting Australian team directly but it has surely raised a lot of security concerns. According to various media reports emerging from Pakistan, the security of the visiting team has been beefed up exponentially around the ground, while travelling and at the team hotel.
