MS Dhoni moves contempt plea against IPS officer in Madras High Court

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has moved the Madras High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against IPS officer G Sampath Kumar who was investigating the 2013 IPL betting and spot-fixing cases.

The CSK skipper has filed a contempt of court petition for Sampath’s alleged statements against the Supreme Court and certain senior counsels in the matter pertaining to match-fixing. He is reportedly seeking Rs 100 crore in damages from the officer and a TV channel for making match-fixing allegations against him.

While the case was listed, it was not heard due to time constraints and is likely to be listed on Tuesday for hearing. As per an interim order passed on March 18, 2014, the court restrained Sampath Kumar from making any statement against Dhoni, linking him with match-fixing and spot-fixing.

Despite the order, the IPS officer reportedly filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court containing disparaging remarks against the judiciary and the senior counsel representing the State in the cases against MS Dhoni.
