Maheesh Theekshana's participation in Asia Cup 2023 final against India uncertain due to hamstring strain

The involvement of Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana in the Asia Cup final against India hangs in the balance owing to a hamstring strain, the severity of which will be determined on Friday.

The enigmatic spinner suffered a strain in his right hamstring while fielding during Sri Lanka's narrow victory over Pakistan on Thursday.

"Maheesh Theekshana has strained his right hamstring. The player will undergo a scan tomorrow to fully assess his condition," stated Sri Lanka Cricket in a post on X on Thursday.

During Sri Lanka's bowling innings, Theekshana had to leave the field on multiple occasions. Despite visible signs of discomfort, he managed to complete his nine-over spell in the 42-over-per-side match. However, he required assistance from members of the Sri Lanka dugout to leave the field during the 39th over.

Theekshana's injury compounds Sri Lanka's challenges as they are already missing key players such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara.

With the final against India scheduled for Sunday, Sri Lanka faces a predicament regarding Theekshana's fitness for this crucial match.
