Kuldeep Yadav: From downfall to dominance, the big resurgence | India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2023

Kuldeep Yadav may be making waves in the cricketing world but a second chance didn't come that easily for the left-arm leg spinner.

His 5-wicket haul against Pakistan is a testament to the hard work he has put in following a period of decline towards the end of the last decade.

Most fans would remember a teary-eyed Kuldeep when he was taken to the cleaners during KKR's match against RCB in IPL 2019. Many believed it was the start of Kuldeep's downfall.Struggling with poor form and having undergone a knee surgery, many believed that his career was on the decline.

However, the determined cricketer refused to be defeated.

Kuldeep Yadav 2.0 began his resurgence during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.

As per an Indian Express report, Kuldeep decided to return to the basics and worked tirelessly on his skills, seeking guidance from his childhood coach Kapil Pandey in Kanpur.

Later, the experienced former India left-arm spinner, Sunil Joshi, played a pivotal role in shaping Kuldeep's comeback.

Joshi helped Kuldeep refine his delivery stride, front arm position, arm speed, and encouraged him to generate more revolutions on the ball. This hard work paid off when Kuldeep was picked up by the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 auction. Under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant and guidance of head coach Ricky Ponting, Kuldeep found the belief and support he needed.

With Ponting's assurance of playing all matches and being labeled as their 'matchwinner,' Kuldeep regained his confidence and performed brilliantly in IPL 2022, taking 21 wickets, including his best figures of 4 for 14. He made a triumphant return to the Indian Test team, shining with 8 wickets in the 1st Test against Bangladesh in December 2022.

Despite facing some setbacks, Kuldeep's determination and hard work continued to pay dividends.

He made a strong comeback in ODIs, taking 27 wickets in 13 innings this year at an impressive economy rate of 4.57.Kuldeep Yadav's rejuvenated form comes as a timely warning to his opponents as the crucial ODI World Cup approaches.

The lad from Kanpur, who once faced a daunting tunnel of darkness, has now emerged into the light with a renewed spirit and talent, proving that he can be a formidable force to reckon with on any given day.
